CEC plans to look into each case of denied registration in Election to the State Duma
On 29 June, RIA Novosti reported that Russia’s CEC will look into each case of denied registration in the Election to State Duma.
The justification of denied registration should be well-grounded that it would not trigger allegations of elimination of undesirable candidates misusing administrative resources, as on Wednesday the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, stated.
‘Here we are trying to look into such cases. There should be indisputable, sufficient grounds and CEC should be informed - if there is such a situation – about each of such case. If it is an utmost and critical situation, certainly CEC should be informed about it and we will look into it. It is also an additional preventative measure to avoid abuse under somebody’s pressure,’- emphasized Pamfilova to the experts and observers taking part at the CEC round table.
One of the speakers, the board member of the movement ‘Golos’, Roman Udot requested to recognize the importance of findings of observers and activists engaged in citizen control. ‘They [the findings] are scarce, but divulge systemic problems. And the price of it is sometimes observers’ blood, but always sweat, nerves and lack of sleep, - says Mr. Udot. – CEC must get to the bottom of each resonant case. Our findings serve as a litmus test of the entire system of electoral rights. If there is an immune response to the disease, the system is functioning. One can argue whether it is good or not. However, it is functional. If there is no immune response to a serious infection, the system is dead. In such case there is nothing to argue about’.
